Legacy of Excellence
Modern Dwellings traces its roots thousands of miles and almost five decades ago. It was 1977 when a young couple traversed North America, relocating from South Florida to Alaska, where elk and mouse roamed a nearby wilderness, enabling Manson Peppers to enjoy his favorite hobby on weekends.
Tutelage from an older brother – and hunting buddy – helped Manson become proficient in post and beam custom home construction. He and his young wife, Laura, fashioned custom home building into a thriving business.
Sprouting a family, the couple ended their Alaska adventure and moved to the Atlanta area in 1984, bringing along their custom-home-building expertise. They opened an office in Dawsonville and became a Lindal Cedar Homes dealer in 1993.
Generational Succession
Justin Peppers tagged along to job sites as early as age 12. He grew up in the business to the point of acquiring ownership. Although it can’t be described as “tagging along,” Manson still spends numerous days on job sites overseeing the work of subcontractors. Laura works part-time keeping the books.
In 2022, Justin ‘remodeled’ Blue Ridge Cedar Homes (dba: Peppers Construction) into Modern Dwellings of Georgia Corporation.
“We didn’t build just cedar homes, and we weren’t located in Blue Ridge,” Justin explained. “Our specialty is a custom home of modern design, so our new name just makes more sense for where the business is now.”
Operating Principles
Modern Dwellings, actually, builds any type of home and even does commercial and light industrial construction. But designing and building luxury custom homes remains its primary focus.
